Overview
Puppies can decline quickly, especially in the neonatal period. Common issues such as diarrhea, dehydration, poor nursing, infection, low body temperature, and weakness require close monitoring and, in many cases, veterinary guidance.
Watch for
- Poor weight gain or weight loss
- Weak suckle or poor nursing
- Loose stool or vomiting
- Respiratory distress or aspiration concerns
- Lethargy, chilling, or dehydration
Breeder response
Strong records, clean sanitation, and quick escalation save more puppies than denial ever will.
Practical note
If the puppy is getting worse while you are debating, that debate is already losing.
